At Home With

Have you ever wondered how other customers in Australia and New Zealand use RHP products?
Maybe you want to add a barn door feature or rolling ladder but are not sure how to make it work in your home?
Well, we have caught up with some of our previous clients and we are bringing you some major inspiration straight from their homes!

At Home with Andreas,
from Heidbrink Design in Paddignton NSW

One of our fantastic customers Andreas from Heidbrink Design has done an exceptional job of installing one of our Rolling Ladders in his home.
Most people have books, but he has a true collection and we must say it looks amazing.
Find out below, some of his handy tips and tricks.
Apart from having an amazing bookshelf in your home, what inspired you to install a ladder?
We have always been voracious readers and the book collection in our house has grown extensively over the years. I admire beautiful libraries, either private or public and for me ladders are part of it. I wanted a library ladder as long as I am collecting books. When we moved into our newly renovated house with 3.6 metre high ceilings the opportunity finally arose. I built new floor to ceiling shelves spanning across the whole wall with a library ladder.
Did you have any other ideas for this area or was a Ladder the only contender?
Definitely the Ladder, and I am quite excited about it. It works great.
Where did your decision against having Non Skid Feet/Wheels on your Ladder arise from and why?
The wheels take up quite a bit of space, which is rare in an inner city house. I decided to try without, leaving the option to add the wheels later if necessary. I am very pleased that it works perfectly without. I just lift the bottom of the ladder a bit off the floor and move it along. It might not be for everybody or for a commercial application, but I like it.
While researching Rolling Ladders, did you come across any other companies that could help with your project? If yes what made our product stand out from the rest?
There is not much choice for Rolling Ladder Hardware in Australia. Your Product was one of the few that provided the quality I was after. I also looked at ways to make the hardware myself, in the end I went with your professiionally made product for easy installation and use.
How likely are you to recommend our company to a friend, colleague, or purchase from us again?
As a interior architect the quality and functionality of the products I specify is important. It was great to use the hardware on my own sliding ladder first. I now perfectly understand how it works and would definitely specify it again if the need for a Rolling Ladder arises on one of my projects.
Is there anything else you would like us to know about our services or products?
I will consider your other products if needed. They are quite special in the Australian Market

At Home with Richard, in Birchgrove NSW

Richard's book collection is something all readers long for!
The look and smell of a collection such as this, paired with an antique ladder and RHP hardware, is truly inspiring.
Find out more about his RHP story below...
First off, wow, you have an amazing book collection! Is the bookshelf a new addition to your home or have you had it for a while?
The bookshelves were part of a renovation about 12 years ago and I was an avid collector of second-hand books both in England and Australia.
Was an interior ladder always something you wanted or were you inspired by something in particular?
It was something that I had always thought about but thought it would be too expensive to have installed. When I saw the antique ladder, I bought it and then searched online for the rail and ladder attachments. I was surprised to find  someone in Australia who actually  supplied the products!
We are in love with the antique ladder, where was this sourced from and why did you choose to go antique?
I found the antique ladder for a few hundred dollars in a small antiques shop on Darling Street in Rozelle, which is the suburb over from me. It was really a spontaneous buy more than anything else.
The Double Hook ladder kits are quite a new addition to our range. What was it that made you choose the non rolling hardware?
There is not a lot of space in my library room as there is a couch at one end and a piano at the other! Therefore I would not have been able to roll very far anyway and the double hook ladder was also the cheaper option. I am quite happy to unhook it and move it along.
On a scale of 1-10, 10 Being Easy Peasy, how did you find the installation of the RHP hardware?
I would say 9/10 as the instructions were amazingly clear.  I did have to cut  the rail slightly to make it fit as it was a little too long and due to the length  it took three of us to hang it but I'm very pleased with it.
Any tips or tricks you could recommend to others who are looking at a similar project?
Make sure you know the measurements for the ladder fittings beforehand to ensure they can be used with your antique ladder. The RHP hardware is so well made, that it will not be forced onto a width that does not fit exactly. This meant I had to shave a bit off the bottom of my ladder to fit the non-skid feet.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO ADD A ROLLING LADDER FEATURE TO YOUR HOME?
We haven’t been in this house long, but one of the changes we wanted to make was to redo the dividing wall between the dining room and the lounge in a large high ceiling room. We changed it from a 2m high wall to 3.5m and extended it. This created an ideal wall for a library (to house all my wife’s books accumulated since she was at school.) A rolling ladder was an obvious choice to reach the upper shelves.  A google search brought us to your website and after some research on the product and your company, it gave us exactly what we were after.
WHY DID YOU DECIDED TO MOUNT THE WHEELS ON THE INSIDE OF THE LADDER?
I put the wheels on the inside so the ladder would fit next to the TV unit when in the storage position.  It is not as stable when rolling but is fine when climbed on because of the braked wheels.
ON A SCALE OF 1-10, 10 BEING EASY PEASY, HOW DID YOU FIND THE INSTALLATION OF THE RHP HARDWARE?
I downloaded the install instructions before ordering and could see it was going to be “easy peasy” provided the parts were of a quality as displayed. They were and it went up without any problems.  My son-in-law is a carpenter and he offered to build the ladder using the dimensions on your install sheet. (Thanks for that).
WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO PAINT THE LADDER IN THE SAME FINISH AS YOUR WALLS AND BOOKSHELF?
We used a dressed pine thinking we would use a wood stain, but we couldn’t find a stain to match the different timbers in the lounge so we painted it the same colour as our walls and library shelves - we are really happy with the finished result.
ANYTHING ELSE?
We would have no hesitation in recommending your products or your company.  Thanks again Keri!
